Our Story
About PMFSS
Founded in 2009 by Pittsburgh-area Muslim families, we've spent 15 years proving that compassionate, culturally sensitive care can reach everyone — regardless of income, insurance, or background.
How We Started
Born From a Community's Need
In 2009, a small group of Muslim families in Pittsburgh noticed something troubling: neighbors, friends, and newly arrived immigrants were going without basic healthcare and mental health support — not because care didn't exist, but because the system felt inaccessible, unaffordable, and culturally foreign.
Guided by the Islamic principle of rahma — mercy and compassion — they came together to build something different. A place where a patient's faith would be respected, their language spoken, and their dignity upheld. A place where "no insurance" was never a reason to turn someone away.
Fifteen years later, PMFSS serves more than 5,000 patients annually across three Pennsylvania locations — and the founding commitment remains unchanged: care for every person, without exception.
"We didn't build a clinic. We built a home for people who had nowhere else to go."
— Dr. Amjad Jalil, Executive Director

What We Stand For
Our Core Values
Compassion First
Every person who walks through our doors is met with dignity, warmth, and genuine care — regardless of background, income, or circumstance.
Equity in Access
We believe quality healthcare and mental health support are rights, not privileges. We remove every barrier we can — financial, cultural, and linguistic.
Cultural Humility
Our community is beautifully diverse. We honor the faith, language, and lived experience of every individual and family we serve.
Community Rooted
We were built by this community, for this community. Our staff, volunteers, and board reflect the people we serve.
Whole-Person Care
Physical health, mental health, and family wellbeing are inseparable. We treat the whole person, not just the presenting problem.
Faithful Service
Rooted in Islamic principles of mercy, justice, and service to others — we are called to care for our neighbors as we would care for ourselves.
